Fluent New Tab is an independent open-source project created by snow mint. It is NOT a Microsoft product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected to Microsoft Corporation. The extension utilizes the Microsoft Fluent 2 Design System guidelines strictly for aesthetic purposes to provide a cohesive visual experience.
2. License and Open Source
Fluent New Tab is free and open-source software. The licensing terms depend on the version of the extension you are using or modifying:
- Versions up to 2.2: Licensed under the MIT License.
- Version 3.0 and newer (Effective February 18, 2026): Licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0).
What the GPL-3.0 license means for you: You are completely free to use, modify, and distribute this software. However, if you modify the code and distribute your own version (or a derivative work), you are legally required to make your source code open and available under the exact same GPL-3.0 license. This ensures the project and its derivatives remain free and open for the community.
